Do you know what makes this dog so amazing?
MashaAllah, I started to think about my own children and that someday I would like to be a proud father like this man in the passenger seat next to me. However, as he kept speaking, his voice became less cheerful to point where it was cracking. I could see the same bright eyes, now beginning to tear up as he said about his son, “but he is now an atheist. He spent a lot of time with a friend of his. He was very much impressed with his friend and his friend convinced him that Islam is nothing more than just a man made religion like all the rest of the religions.” At this point, he burst into tears saying, “I don’t know what we did wrong!”Allah tells us about the famous story of the youth in the cave and the debate of how many youth were, in fact, in that cave in Surah al-Kahf:
“They will say there were three, the fourth of them being their dog; and they will say there were five, the sixth of them being their dog – guessing at the unseen; and they will say there were seven, and the eighth of them was their dog. Say, [O Muhammad], “My Lord is most knowing of their number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with an obvious argument and do not inquire about them among [the speculators] from anyone.”
Notice that Allah mentions, quite explicitly, their dog. Allah didn’t mention you or I in the Quran, but He mentioned this dog. The mention of this dog will be recited until the Day of Judgement. Why?
It was because of the company the dog kept. He was with those great youth who were tested in their faith and came out on top. Just keeping company with them, earned this dog a mention in the Noble Quran.
Friends are important because they deeply influence a person` inner thoughts about life and all things that matter to him or here.
While living in a non-Muslim environment such as Japan, we need to make sure what kind of friendships our sons and daughters have and how they behave on day-to-day basis.
For us to keep our children on the right path, we need to be active no matter where we are now at which stage of raising our children. Some of these steps may include the following.
- Be a great example to our kids
- Share with them all the knowledge you have about Islam
- Be a great friend with them so that they share with you every thing thing they think through
- Watch closely what company they keep while at school and at play
- Monitor what they watch at TV, Internet etc.
- Pray to Allah for the hidayat of our children and for all of us, the human beings
Please feel free to share with us what you think about the above.
